Hannah Mecaskey Conley

While my life has taken me to a more practical application of faith and justice than I imagined as a social worker, I am grateful to have had the opportunity to study at the Graduate Theological Union, obtaining a Master's in Theology, a Master's in Philosophy, and Graduate Certificates of Women's and Jewish studies. During this time (2008-2013), I had the opportunity to intern at Tikkun for a semester. Now living in Boston and working with many socially and medically under-served populations, it is crucial to me that faith communities understand and respect one another's practices. As I continue doctoral studies in the behavioral science field, my passion for religious exploration continues to weave itself through the course of my life.

By Hannah Mecaskey Conley | April 19, 2019

In this first installment, Hannah Mecaskey Conley argues that faith must adapt in response to history and encourages us to recognize the beauty and pain of the Other.

How to Be an Activist

At a time when demonizing those who are not yet with us is commonplace and the political discourse is becoming more polarized, widening the political gap, insisting on seeing the humanity of others even when you despise their behavior, is a radical political act. Become curious. Ask not what is wrong with someone you don't agree with, but rather what is driving them to support policies that are so hurtful to others.
