Shift Discourse

Tikkun is dedicated to healing and transforming the world. We ensure that our writing addresses pressing social issues in complex and nuanced ways, overcoming more narrow analyses. Moving beyond a right/left critique or strictly economic assessment, we articulate how our psychological and spiritual needs impact the world in which we live and how we understand and engage with that world. Our writing provides insight on how to make the utopian vision of a truly loving, moral, and just world a reality. We build bridges between religious and secular progressives by delivering a forceful critique of all forms of exploitation, oppression, and domination while nurturing an interfaith vision of a caring society — one whose institutions are reconstructed on the basis of love, generosity, nonviolence, social justice, caring for nature, and awe and wonder at the grandeur of the universe.

“In its twenty years of life, Tikkun might not have fixed the world, but it surely has infused the debate on its redemption with informed, provocative viewpoints. It shows that politics should not be an exercise in empty rhetoric and, most importantly, it has sought to bridge the gap between the spirit and the intellect--with hopeful results.”

-Ilan Stavans, author of The Oxford Book of Jewish Stories
