Sam Kestenbaum was born and raised in Maine. He has worked as a carpenter, a reporter, a lobsterman and a senior editor at a magazine in Beijing, China. He moved to the Palestinian West Bank in February and is now living and working in Ramallah, six miles north of Jerusalem. Sam was drawn to the West Bank because he wanted to see firsthand the Israeli occupation of Palestine, to hear the human stories behind the headlines. Sam is also studying Arabic. He can recite the alphabet, sound out words and hold basic conversations.
