My identity as a spiritual progressive sprang from opposing directions: a church-hopping father who gave me a religious education extending from Christian Science to Foursquare Gospel, and an impoverished childhood with heated discussions of world affairs. For a while, activism replaced religion in my life. A deep look at my own psycho-spiritual difficulties nudged me toward a political engagement informed by love and truth (a Jungian integration of opposites?). Educated at UW Madison, UC Berkeley, San Francisco State, and Pacific Lutheran, I teach Composition and lead creative writing workshops. On my hand is a yin-yang tattoo.
