David A. Sylvester is a writer and teacher in the San Francisco Bay Area with an interest in spiritual growth and social justice. He has traveled in Central America and spent three months in a federal prison for civil disobedience at Fort Benning, Georgia, to protest U.S. military actions in Central America. He studied Christian spiritual tradition in 12-Step recovery programs and received a Master’s of Theological Studies at the Jesuit School of Theology in Berkeley in 2009. He is currently studying Catholic-Jewish relations and rabbinic texts in a master’s program at the Center for Jewish Studies at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley. Before this, he was a reporter at the San Jose Mercury News and San Francisco Chronicle for many years and has a master’s degree in economics from the State University of New York at Albany. He is a member of Beyt Tikkun, a committed Roman Catholic and is active in his parish community at Our Lady of Lourdes in Oakland, CA.
