I worked with the victims of the Vietnam war who risked their lives to flee to Hong Kong. The refugee camps were full of children who were just sitting in the camp with little hope of education. I helped create a school for 800 uneducated children under the auspices of the UNHCR and the International Red Cross in 1982. A former British military barracks was revamped to become the school. How often I wish I had recorded the stories of the children or saved their art work. The school was named by the refugees, who became part of the teaching staff, as New Horizon's School. The Kai Tak camp is gone. The children in my choir, their parents, the staff and volunteers are scattered around the world. My fond, yet painful, memories still remain, as I wonder how they are living their lives now and if it made a difference. So many untold stories......and so many painful stories still going on as we fight wars instead of making peace. I encourage you to continue your work for peace.
