Here are six articles worth discussing:

1. “Israeli Left Emerges from Coma Amid Atrocities” by Mel Frykberg.

2. “A Matter of Timing,” an article by Uri Avnery on the real issues underlying last week’s humiliation of Vice President Biden by Israel.

3. “Netanyahu is trading Israeli security for right-wing ideology” by the editorial board of Haaretz.

4. “Israel demands peace from Palestinians as its own racism spreads” by Zvi Bar’el.

5. “Protesters against Haredi single-sex buses: Israel isn’t Tehran,” an article by Nir Hasson on the use of public buses to supply sex-segregated transportation services for the Haredi community.

6. “Active Nonviolence in Palestine and Israel” by David Hartsough, a member of Tikkun’s interfaith Network of Spiritual Progressives. In this piece Hartsough gives us an important update on attempts to change Israeli policies through non-violent action.

Please note that Tikkun‘s policy is to share pieces with which we explicitly disagree, so long as we think they’re worth discussing.

If you want to read what we think about Israel and about our strategy for how to bring Middle East peace, read the editorials in Tikkun magazine.

Also, you can check out:

1. My own reflections on Israel.

2. Gershon Baskin’s article from the Jan/Feb 2010 issue of Tikkun calling for a U.S. peace initiative that might be backed by imposing a solution if the parties can’t get their soon on their own.

3. My critique of those who are seeking to repress the debate about Boycotts, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) in the Jewish world and my explanation of why Tikkun is not yet ready to endore BDS.

We are also planning to include a lively debate about BDS involving people with a variety of different perspectives in the upcoming May/June 2010 issue of the magazine. Subscribe now so you don’t miss it!
