There's a really interesting piece by Jeff Strabone on the blog 3 Quarks Daily that goes into deeper detail what Lambert Strether and Gene Glickman are speaking of:

http://www.3quarksdaily.com/3quarksdaily/2010/01/postshame.html

I agree: Obama is not what we convinced ourselves that he was. He never was and never claimed to be a "leftist" - we were so desperate for change that we allowed ourselves to believe that he was the answer to our prayers. We need to get on with pursuing our goals and the very first step in that process is to let go of the idea that Obama is the answer to anything at all. He is all talk and no action. He is a very dangerous man because he has convinced many that he is a good man with honorable goals that are being blocked by nefarious opponents of change. In fact, he is nothing more than a slick con man, devoted to the continuation of the Bush administration policies. We all need to wake up, turn our backs on him, and engage in positive means of change. Change that we can believe in will not be coming from the Obama administration. Stop worshiping at the altar of Obama!

Gene: You forgot no help on housing, 15% unemployment as far as the eye can see, gigantic bailouts for the banksters and no financial reform, and a farcial "health insurance reform" process that makes failure to buy junk insurance a Federal crime.

Don't blame me. I voted for the Democratic candidate who won the majority of the popular vote in the Democratic primaries....

I think this series of meetings you're organizing is based upon a faulty premise: The title of the conference -- "How To Support Obama to BE the Obama Americans Thought We Elected" -- says, essentially, that Obama is not who he is acting like.

You believe, wrongly, I submit, that the person who is operating a Guantanamo in Bagram, who is detaining people without trial, or, even, evidence, who is coming to support nuclear power, who took over Bush's attitude toward Iran, who supports the CEO's bonuses, who chose his advisors from among the old-school crowd, who feels it is legitimate to kill innocent people using drones in a country we are not even at war with (and I don't mean Afghanistan), who took over Bush's war in Afghanistan and is enlarging it, who...

Enough!

I, myself, never had this illusion: I voted for Cynthia McKinney.

I suggest that you abandon Obama, and have a series of conferences around "How Should We Deal with the Cynicism Engendered by Obama's Being Who He Is" (not who you wish he was).

Thank you for the thoughtfully prepared Highlights. I would have enjoyed attending, but a death in the family intervened. I look forward to participating in the future.

It was a shame that this conference happened on the same week-end as Pantheacon.....a conference of over 2,000 Pagans held annually in San Jose.
