I very much share your dreams and thoughts of creating a better world to live in.
Its comforting to know that I am not the only one who shares these feelings and thoughts about our society.
I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who has these feelings.
Close two years ago I lost my job had a hard time finding another.
It made me think long and hard about my life.
How many years to accumilate what I had, only to lose it faster than it took me to gain it.
It made me realize how much control money and the system have over our lives.
Being tossed aside like a old exspendable tool they no longer need.
It made me look at how we live in this system. .
Had to sell everything I owned, including my home cause I couldn't keep up with the lot rent and bills.
So I got me a motorhome thats self contained used some of my money to get a solar panel kit.
So I could have my own electricity without being hook into the grid.
still need a inverter and more batteries to get more power out of it.
I've been living where ever I can find a place to camp.
Working on and off at temp jobs.
I'm 50 yrs old, finding work is getting harder to do
I have a number of skills I can offer, I just graduated from school for a Class A CDL,I have years exsperience landscaping, plumming, painting, light electrical.Years of construction labor and worked maininance at a Air Force base.,Had agriculture in High school.
I am a artist I can Draw, paint, photograph people and landscapes.
I've done childrens murials on walls.
I would love to share my skills and be part of something greater.
Find others that want to come together help each other build a better world to live in,other than this shit we're living in now.
I'm tired of the system.
Tired of trying to meet up to system qualifications for the right to work ,so I can provide for myself in this world.
They robbed us of our Freedom.
And I for one would like my Freedom back..

Please do it and remain attuned to the highest ideals in the endeavor. To this effect, the book "Ecovillage Living" is a must read text. It is the result of years of work by folks who founded the GAIA TRUST.
When emphasis is placed on co-operation rather than being "different" the right forces align themselves around you and attract the right people.
The authors Hildur Jackson and Karen Svensson, recommend for good reasons that any commune/ity be focused (on a theme). Having this theme, existing "blue-prints" that aid in foreseeing processes that either aid or kill "anarchist" ideals, have emerged as valuable guide lines, and food for thoughtful preparations while you gathering the tribe..... My own community experience is that of having lived at ANANDA VILLAGE near Nevada City CA, a cooperative community founded in 1968. Enjoy the journey!
"Simple Living, and High Thinking" is the maxim of Paramhansa Yogananda, who inspired the Ananda community.

Dave Emailed me back to ask if I was happy with his post; This is my message back to him.
-----------------------
Dave--
Definetly more than OK. (He had askedif the posting was OK) It is exciting A, to see such an instant and wonderful response of energy flow, and B, to see it from the generation older than myself; in both my own personal experience and in the stereotypical views found both in the maintstream and in radical circles or the "counter-mainstream/culture," there is often a view that many older peple have given up their ideals. on the converse, many older folks think that young is synonymous with radical, and we'll grow out of it. There is some truth to these views; however, I have also, and I am more frequently everyday, meeting older folks who have kept to their idealism (and young ones who haven't, unfortunately.) I am seeing it more and more as a project that from the beginning will make a strong effort to remain balanced and multgenerational.
---------------

As for Idealism, I am all for it-- anything else would be a compromise with oneself.

All the best.

Thanks for this post, Dave. Your experience mirrors mine in many ways, although I never went "whole hog" and tried to homestead. My dad was a rural veterinarian, and I knew just how much work it was to farm.

Idealism gets us just so far, and then we have to have the people skills to make things run smoothly. I think part of that is the deepening that ritual gives us. If we interact on that level, it becomes easier to remember that we're all in it together.

I will send a link of this post to my daughter. She's been making new plans lately (to study yoga for a teaching certification), but it sounds a lot like some of her musings a couple of years ago. And Woodstock is not that far from NYC.
