I was blown away by WALL*E which I saw for the first time a few weeks ago. Looking up above my TV I was reminded of the dozens of videos I used to have stored there and the hundreds and hundreds of books I've given away in the last few years. My life-partner and I have been shedding while dramatically cutting back on spending. Less is better for us, which is a good thing since our choice of work has left us with much less income than our heady days of dot-com boom.

Yet our business, a peace and social justice learning company, does sell stuff. What we strive for though, is that the stuff is sustainably made, with fair labor practices, and that each item has lasting value that can be passed on to others.

Yep - We've got to let go of the old to make way for the new. Thanks to posts like yours and leaders like Ed Begley at least we have some ideas on which way to go.
