Morning in America
By Jon Swan
Morning in America. Elsewhere too,
most likely, Other countries still
exist beyond the borders of our
geography, But the capital of Is is Us.
Outside the great metropolis, species
chat in languages for which we lack
translators, Those who speak these
Other tongues, can they be trusted?
Felt-tip black against a patch of unredacted
blue, crows patrol our borders, Caw-caw!
they cry, calling up the rows of com that
march like Round-Up-Read Minute Men.
War a rooted word, implicit now in every root
and fiber as the crow flies black against the blue
above the marching com: another morning
in America dawning, dawning on you.
